Research has proved that spiritual and religious practices influence health for betterment. For many spirituality means having a belief that there is higher power above all of us and it also means having a strong relationship with that power. It develops a sense of belonging and protection.  Through spiritual one find ways to connecting to something larger than yourself and your worldly, material concerns, or seeking and connecting to something transcendent or sacred.

Spiritual practices have their advantage in improving not only physical health but also mental health. These practices can help lower psychological distress, sleep disturbance, and fatigue, as well as promote a better quality of life in people with ill health.

Isolation is a major trigger for depression, but spirituality and organized religious ways encourage social engagement. Volunteering or being involved in a group or spiritual community provides social support that can reduce the risk for depression. Spirituality helps to provide a sense of hope to counter the helplessness attached to depression.

It has been observed that meditation, Yoga, prayers or even a walk in the nature can help to improve the immune system. When we practice deep meditation or prayer our body and mind start repairing themselves from the wear and tear of stress and illness. This allows the immune system to charge the whole body again and start healing it.

When we surrender to God or to higher power we get a sense of control. This has a positive effect on our health and wellness. We can now relax and are not distracted by negative thoughts. Spiritual wellness brings comfort and lends strength for handling life's challenges.

For some people taking time out for a spiritual practice is a key part of their wellness. Some try to time out to be in nature, to meditate, or to pray. Others spend time with music, art, or poetry, or quiet. Many people pay special attention to natural  beauty, loving kindness, gratitude, healing, or faith in a higher being.

Spirituality is a very personal experience, and everyone’s spiritual path may be unique. But some spiritual stress relief strategies have been helpful to many, regardless of faith. We should try them, and see which may work for us.
